$100,000 Grant Awarded to Smart Beginnings Greater Roanoke

(July 2010) – Smart Beginnings Greater Roanoke, a local collaborative working to improve the quality of early education and care in the Roanoke, has received a significant grant of $100,000 from the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation (VECF), a public-private partnership headquartered in Richmond, Va.

Smart Beginnings Receives Grant from VDSS

(February 2010) –Smart Beginnings of Greater Roanoke recently received a $57,000 grant from the Virginia Department of Social Services. These funds will be used for the local implementation of the Virginia Star Quality Initiative during 2009-2011. The Virginia Star Quality Initiative provides a consistent way to distinguish the level of quality in early education programs, allowing parents to make more informed choices about where they
send their children.

Blue Ridge PBS premieres "Positive Parenting"

(February 2010) –Blue Ridge PBS premiered "Positive Parenting" on Feb. 2 at 7 p.m., to provide parents the support and information they need to give their children a solid start in life. The one-hour special program is scheduled for several encore presentations and will be available in streaming video.

WDBJ7, Blue Ridge PBS share award funds with Smart Beginnings

(February 2010) –WDBJ7 and Blue Ridge PBS presented a $1,000 check to Smart Beginnings of Greater Roanoke, during a live “JobQuest” broadcast on Feb. 16. The donation is part of a community service award the two stations recently received for work on “JobQuest,” the popular advice and information program.
